The website offers online versions of original material, including photographs, personal papers, government documents, maps and art objects, as well as a large collection of sound recording and video clips, family history guides and the opportunity to add "your story".

A2A (Access to Archives) databaseExternal website - opens in a new window The A2A database contains catalogues of archives held across England and dating from the 900s to the present day. Search for a name or a place and see if you find any new clues to follow up.
Scottish Archives NetworkExternal website - opens in a new window SCAN - the Scottish Archive Network will offer a similar service to the English A2A project. There is lots of interesting information on the site, although the database is not up yet.
National Library of WalesExternal website - opens in a new window The National Library of Wales has several catalogues/online resources including: Geoweb (printed materials); CAIRSweb (non-print material) and ISYSweb (minor databases).

freeBMDExternal website - opens in a new window Search for the index entries of the birth, marriage or death of your ancestor. The index is being transcribed by volunteers so it is growing all the time. It covers the years 1837 to 1901 but only some years are complete.
